Stone Shell Pebble Ceremony

A Look at Stone Shell Pebble Ceremonies

The purpose of this ritual during a naming day, is to fill the child's life with warm wishes and hopes for the future.

This ceremony involves either stones, rocks, pebbles or shells. These are given to the guests at the commencement of the ceremony, and the guests are asked to hold the stones, rocks, pebbles or shells closely, and to close their eyes.

While they have their eyes closed, they are asked to fill the stones, rocks, pebbles or shells with love, warmth, hope and prosperity, whilst thinking about the life ahead for the child at the centre of the naming day.

At the completion of the ceremony, the stones, rocks, pebbles or shells are collected, and placed in a glass bowl or vase. They are then place in the child's bedroom, or somewhere in the house that is poignant, as a reminder of the love and support for the child.
