Rose Ceremony

A Look at Rose Ceremonies

This ritual is performed at naming day celebrations, to signify love, unity, acceptance, beauty and hope.

A rose (or number o roses) are given to the parents of the child having the naming day ceremony. The parents hold the roses, make wishes for their child, and then pass them to other family members or friends, to create a sense of unity.

A variation on this ceremony, is to give the guests or family members roses prior to the commencement of the ritual. They in-turn bless the roses by holding them and making a wish or pledge, and then pass them to the parents of the child at the centre of the naming day.

The roses can then placed in a vase at the conclusion of the naming day, and eventually dried and placed in a book or frame as an eternal reminder of their symbolism.
