Home Ceremony

A Look at Home Naming Day Ceremonies

The big advantage with having a home based naming day ceremony, is that is an affordable option for many families. However, much like location based ceremonies (places other than your home), there is a range of items you need to consider.

Firstly, Naming Day ceremonies are all about children. Your children, your friends children, and your family's children, so you may need to consider the amount of play space available. You will also need to consider the catering requirements, and be aware of any food intolerance's (such as food that contains nuts).

Secondly, you may want to consider hiring a children's entertainer, such as a magician, clown, or fairy. Room permitting, you may even decide to hire a jumping castle, or run a few simple games yourself, such as statues or musical chairs. This will keep the children relatively settled during the ceremony.

Some of the other considerations on the day are:

  • The weather (either rain of heat), and have a contingency plan
  • Available parking for your guests
  • Access for any disabled guests
  • Catering requirements (for refreshments)
  • Any permissions that may be required by the council or other authority (especially if you are panning a ritual that may impact the environment)
  • Any events that may clash with your ceremony
  • Tables, chairs, and any required props or items for any rituals that are to be performed
